Suburban
Buddhism is a term that I only wish I had come up with. I heard someone
say it once and I really thought that it captured what was happening
in American pop culture. The idea that you can go to your local Pier
1 Imports or Target, buy a candle with Chinese or Japanese calligraphy
on it, go home, light it, and suddenly you are a part of 2000 years
of eastern tradition and philosophy is ridiculous. It's another example
of society's mindset for shortcuts and quick-fixes to everything.
